About Anita Cissel

Artist Statement

My art is a celebration of God’s creation, offering viewers a moment of peace and solace amidst life’s demands.

Inspired by the vibrant yet harmonious colors of nature, I create watercolor paintings of food and flowers, layering translucent hues to capture both subtlety and striking contrast. This medium allows me to build intensity gradually, reflecting the delicate beauty of the natural world.

For my abstract botanicals, I turn to acrylics and gel-plate prints, embracing their bold textures to evoke the organic forms of plants in a modern, expressive way. My work is deeply rooted in faith and the joy of everyday wonders that remind us of divine artistry.

In a world often weighed by stress, I hope my paintings provide a visual respite, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and find joy in the beauty that surrounds us. Through each piece, I strive to honor the Creator’s gifts and share a sense of calm and delight with all who encounter my art.

Artist Bio

Born in Poland during the Cold War, I grew up amid scarcity under Soviet rule. Art became my refuge—first in pencil sketches and the traditional Silesian craft of skrobanka, etching intricate patterns into dyed, hard-boiled eggs. Though dismissed as a mere hobby, these early acts of creation brought relief, expression, and quiet joy to myself and those around me.

After emigrating and marrying, I was encouraged to pursue art seriously. For years, I honed my sketching, mastering composition and perspective through steady, incremental growth. Seeking deeper expression, I expanded into oils, acrylics, and digital art. I self-published a children’s book via Kindle Direct Publishing and produced numerous paintings, yet still felt drawn toward a more personal voice. This led me to watercolor—now my primary medium—where I explore flowers, food, and landscapes with translucent depth and vibrant harmony.

To refine my craft, I completed the first half of the Evolve Artist program, a rigorous oil-painting curriculum, and am now advancing through its second level. The foundational skills gained—control of value, edge, and color—elevate all my work. Recently, I’ve embraced Gelli printing with acrylics, thriving in its bold textures and incorporating the technique into botanical mixed-media pieces.
